Cambelt

Post by ohms69 »

Hi all,
I'm changing the cambelt over the weekend and am undecided as to exactly which I should buy.
Do people use Andyspares for such an item or is it still preferred to go main dealer?
Also, would I be best advised to fit a new Timing belt tensioner at the same time, or is this not necessary.
Which timing belt should I buy from GSF for a 93 BX 17 TZD Turbo?
There seems to be 2 belts available and I'm not sure which to go for...If any?
Thanks in advance
Bryn

Whether you go to a Citroen dealer or use GSF, what you'll buy is a Dayco belt. The only difference is that at the Citroen dealer you'll pay three times GSF price.

GSF it is then.
Do I buy : N13113A or N13113... Can an 'A' really make that much difference?
And the tensioner?

Can't say which belt, but on my '93 Pug 405 (same engine) having done some 166k miles the tensioner is OK and never changed it. This is something I also concidered remembering doing a CX500 motorcycle and there was less than half the pressure on the old tensioner in comparison with new.

N13113 is the Dayco belt, N13113A is a Gates version.
If you're really paranoid, GSF can also sell you a Genuine Citroen boxed belt N13186 for £15.00 plus VAT. Its a Dayco in the box though.
I changed my timing belt at 110k miles and did replace the roller tensioner for piece of mind.

Although during the time I had my BXTZD I fitted three cambelts to it, I didn't need to replace the tensioner up to the time I sold the vehicle on to another member of this forum. When you have the belt removed give the pulleys a spin and if you detect any roughness in the running, then is the time to change it. Also look closely at the water pump pulley for signs of leakage or undue movement.
