Xenon bulb on my HDI Exclusive is now gonne :(

Post by kentc5 »

Hello guys,

Today realised that the passenger side low beam xenon ligh bulb is not working anymore :( ... so it will need to be replaced.
I have never replaced a Xenon bulb before so ... the factory standard one what colour in K is it? I am happy with the colour the existing ones emmit at the moment. So I want to have the same.
The same time I do not want to spend 1/7 of the value of the car to replace a ligh bulb ... lol so looking to cheap alternatives.

Cheers
Vasilis.

Not sure about the K factor for your car, but GSF or ECP will sell you the correct one, thy are around £70 to £80 from memory

I ordered one from eBay ... for just under £10 ... one God knows what it will show like!
4300K so it should be the same colour as the factory standard one.

I went to Halfords while I was traveling about to my clients today and ... eehhhmmm lol £89!!!!! for one!

I know they are expensive! but the Xenon's for my CL500 cost £36 per bulb and they are Philips ones...

I don't dare to try and find out how much the Xenon's for my Lexus IS300 cost lol ... I would assume as they have similar reflector style like the C5 might be the same bulb? :S

So does that read that aftermarket HIDs are not going to pass the MOT or only if self leveling and washers are fitted and not working.

It is this that makes me think "Vehicles equipped with High Intensity Discharge (HID) or LED dipped beam headlamps may be fitted with headlamp washers and a suspension or headlamp self levelling system" & "Where HID or LED dipped beam headlamps are fitted, switch on the headlamps and check the operation of any headlamp levelling and cleaning devices fitted."

Says may be fitted & check any devices fitted?????

HID's are not only in projector form.
My Lexus IS has them factory fitted in a reflector form
My Laguna had them factory fittered in a reflector form
and my C5 has them factory fitted in a reflector form.

I compared the Lexus ones (they are D2R's the same bulbs as in the C5)
My Lexus Factory fitted Xenon HID IS300 system vs a Factory fitted "Halogen IS200 System as the IS200 has less "creases" and lines in the reflector unit ... therefore allows "the extra" light of the HID to flood and cannot control it.
I assume it is the same case with the aftermarket light bulb conversions.

Now if the car has an H1, H4 or H7 Projector ... it will be easier to control the flooding of the aftermarket HID-Xenon purely by design.
But still it does not have the auto leveling and washing system that EU requires to the manufacturers to have fitted to cars with such systems installed.

Hence I think it will fail the MOT eventually....

OK I got the new D2R ulb today ... fitted on and it still does not light up ... the old one "philips" was broken.
Now does this mean it is it he Ballast? or a Fuse?
Where is the Ballast located is it in the headlight?

By the way replacing the bulb was a pig! ... well kind of needed to remove the battery to gain access :(
