What engine number do I have?

Post by beko1987 »

Thinking of teaching myself how to do a cambelt change, with my ZX as a test mule. What engine code would I have? 1.4 8v. Is it written anywhere on the engine so I can go and have a look?

Cheers

No problem, Autodata says 1.6hrs for cambelt and does mention the use of a tension gauge.

Thanks to your info I've found the correct timing belt and waterpump kit - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/CITROEN-ZX-1- ... 2c6a17d94b.

However I can't find anything about a tension gauge, is this critical or can it be substituted for a bolt/bit of wood/sweary words (delete as appropriate)

I'll buy the kit next month so I have it and it can inspire me to do it. Need to send my girlfriends off for it;'s change though, there's no room to move under her bonnet, and the £300 quote I;ve had seems reasonable enough!

you dont need a tensioner gauge on a TU engine as long as you can only just turn/twist the longest straight length of belt ( the run between the cam and crank sprockets ) a quarter on a turn, that should be about right,

in twisting it it need to feel quite tight though

Here's a nice pictorial guide... It's for a 206 with the same engine but it'll basically be the same...

It really is quite easy. I show the use of a SEEM gauge there but as Malcolm says, it's not necessary...
