1998 Synergie TD - fuel tank and sender unit access

Post by zelige »

Evening all

I want to get access to the fuel tank and sender unit. The tank seems to be held up by a cage.

Is this is case of dropping the tank? I can't see a hatch inside the vehicle.

If it is a tank drop can anyone give me advice - should I disconnect fuel lines/ how many bolts are there to disconnect? Any pitfalls?

cheers, Z

Hey Z.... Are you trying to access the sender because your fuel guage is reading incorrectly?

Unfortunately the tank has to be lowered. First of all drain the tank either with a siphon or when you undo the flexible pipe which joins the filler neck to the bottom of the tank. Then loosen the bolts securing the cage. The sender unit is secured in the normal fashion. I once tried without disconnecting the filler tube but it was too difficult to drop the tank enough to extract the pump and gauge unit (it was a HDI) so I guess that you would be better disconnecting it.

thanks for the replies guys.

JC - the gauge is fine, I run the Synergie on WVO and access to the entire fuel delivery system is crucial. There is some slight slowing of the fuel delivery at the mo and I want to have a peek in the tank

thanks again, Z

Ah I see, cool. Is the tank in a position where you could fabricate an access plate inside the car? Dropping the tank everytime you wanted to check its internals will surely turn out to be a total pita???

Interesting idea. On the veg oil forum there's pics of a lovely job a guy's done on his disco. Not sure my skills are up to it though. One day when the kids've grown up and I've got more time .. . .

My veg filtration's pretty good and the slight sluggishness isn't too bad (even in the present cold weather). It's mainly to have a poke around - clean it up a bit, if there's a strainer have a look at its condition.
