Where's the MAF?

Post by isisalar »

Buoyed up by the result of cleaning the MAF on my Xantia HDI I thought I'd have a go at the wife's 02 plate 1.1i Saxo as she's been moaning about the fuel consumption compared to her old diesel 106.
Been out to it this afternoon and I've removed and replaced two likely looking candidates downstream of the air filter and neither of them looked like a MAF, I've since discovered that one of them was the MAP sensor(gets confusing doesn't it).
Can anyone help me out with the location of the MAF sensor please? I've tried a google search and E bay but no joy.
Kind regards everybody
Paul

It may not have one. If it's the same simple single point setup like the TU1 in my old 106 then I should imagine it's just running on MAP.
The HDi engine has both MAP and MAF due to it being quite a complex machine, part of it is that it has to compensate for both boost pressure and EGR.

Deffo no MAF on this engine, it uses a combination of the MAP sensor & the inlet air temperature sensor to work out how much air is being sucked into the engine. I can't think of any modern PSA petrol engines that have a MAF sensor.

Thanks so much for that Wheeler, one thing less to worry about. The MAP sensor I removed, and the other thing which I guess was the temperature sensor were both a bit oily. Would they benefit from a clean up? or is it best to leave well alone.
Thanks again
