Well Evilally, Well worth checking it then...
I had a bad crank sensor on a HDi, it wouldn't go at all! I cant see how a mechanical Engine would need a crank sensor to fire.. Its completely mechanical with a Roatry Timed injection pump...

Re: Diesel missfire
My knowledge is several years old, but I am sure that the rev counter was driven off the alternator. This was on a BX 1.9 diesel NA. When the brushes failed the rev counter stopped working. When I replaced the brushes the rev counter started working again.

Re: Diesel missfire
On the later engines, from XUD onwards, the rev counter had its own TDC sensor in the back of the bell housing, so it wasnt driven off the altinator... even later BX had this setup..
Anyway, the DW8 TDC sensor I think drives the rev counter on these later engines.
Thats why Im not convinced its TDC sensor, if it was then the engine would NOT start at all, as theres no reference to the Pistion Position which is what it does... So Im not convinced its TDC sensor..
The Engine starts fine for a moment...

Re: Diesel missfire
On an electronically timed XUD at least, the engine will start and run with the crank sensor disconnected, just not very well.

Re: Diesel missfire
Thanks for all the replies gave me some ideas will try a crank sensor and work my way up .
Good thing about this is the car came in a deal that if i need any bits from the yard they are in with the price
Up to know i have two egr valves/one full set of injectors/three fuel-filter housings/advance solinoid and two good batteries.
And maybe a tdc sensor Monday.
Thanks again.
