Hi All, Question, My interior fan on my '93 Xantia SXTD has started to make a squeelng sound, I guess its probably just age and crud that may have got into the mechanism. Do you think a squirt of WD40 will do the job of quieting it down or what???
Regards
Paul.

Depends if you like the smell!
Sounds as though the motor bearings are expiring. You might be able to prolong their life if you took the motor to bits, cleaned and greased them butI don't know how much work is involved. I remember trying to do the same on my Renault 21 and finding I couldn't get the fan off and I ended up replacing the motor.
So if you can get at the bearings then WD 40 may work and may soften the existing lubricant and do a good job. Another alternative if you can get to it would be a spray grease which penetrates quite nicely while the solvent evaporates. Spray grease seems to be a motor cycle product but works nicely on cars - and stopped my BX clutch pedal squeaking.
