Thought I would start a new topic as such as I am looking for a basic, do this the do that guide to setup. I have tried many times and although I am sure all is ok I just can't seem to get it right so.......
I installed the Lexia software on a laptop set back to factory settings which installed ok but then had loads of problems, mozilla failed, etc some due to my mistakes. Ended up uninstalling (which failed) and reinstalling (which failed) but still managed to run it and got part way through.
So now planning to reinstall my old laptop to factory settings (as no used anymore so only for this) and reinstall the lexia as a clean copy.
Before I go through all this again though I would appreciate confirmation of exactly what I should be doing.
So, what I plan to do with the new copy is.................
When started I will go through selecting car type (Xantia2) without serching for updates (not connected to net anyway).
I will use PF3 to manually activate entering 001 in the two fields on the screen.
Now the ???? bit.
The screen shot on the DVD shows - Cust code = 001 Ident of PC = 2318808710 Version = LEXIA-345 Server = 21624 So is this what I input on the screen I have ?
I treid this and it didn't work, gave me a different Ident of PC and server no, which generated a different activation key.
So which so I input ?
So far all I get is Error 11 invalid code, after inputting a valid VIN number.
So can someone tell me the actual sequence they used which worked.
Every time I put in different Ident of pc etc I get a different activation key, none of which work.
Any help appreciated, cars can be a pain, and computers can be a pain, so cars + computers are..............................

Follow this video *exactly* for install:
What version do you have?
6.39 is the latest is the 6.x series, 7.06 in the 7 series, and 5.43 in the 5 series. If the Lexia works in 6.3+ then you can install 7.x.

Re: Setting up a Lexia for first use, activation etc.
Sorry but mine is the Lexia version not the Diagbox, I have to fill in a screen based on data from a program that came wirh the install DVD.
Still I see in the video that it should be ok to install and then stop, restart the application before entering the validation code.
Laptop is re-initialising as I type so will try again. I will try the whole setup from scratch again and see what happens, hopefully the key will work this time

I got some screen shots on my Lexia install disc. If you don't have these I can post them.
Ironic thing is I took notes when I installed mine so as to be able to write a guide. Then I dropped my laptop when I slipped on some ice. Could not recover the hard drive.Oops.

Re: Setting up a Lexia for first use, activation etc.
If you've only just bought it and it has Lexia 3.45 and no Diagbox you've been had, that's a very old version of the software and most likely you have one of the poorer chinese clone interfaces that cannot run versions of Diagbox later than 5.29. (Current version is 6.36)
If you've only just got it I'd try to take it back and get one from a more reliable source.
Most of us here who actively discuss Lexia issues run the newer 6.xx versions of Diagbox so we're not familiar with the installation process of older versions of Lexia software without Diagbox, the installation process is completely different.
If you can't get it swapped, you could try downloading Diagbox from "scarymistake", try diagbox 5.29 if its an older chinese clone, or the latest 6.xx version if its not a clone interface. There's no guarantees that software that didn't come with the interface will work though.

Re: Setting up a Lexia for first use, activation etc.
I have had this a while, bought in the last batch purchased via the forum 'bulk buy' run in late 2012. All matches DVD and unit so should work.
I have a file on here called scarymistake but because of the name didn't feel inclined to open it, I expectd it to say haha you just made a scary mistake.....
Just in the middle of yet another reinstall and stuck on a point half way through saying installation sgml whatever that is, I will leave it a bit and see if the progress bar moves at all, then try yet again.......
Tedious as I did have it installed ok but thn this Mozilla fault came up, I started to reinstall and here we are.
While typing this the progress bar has moved one notch (patience required I think) I will shovel some more coal into my aged laptop's boiler and see if I can get up more steam.
I may try the Diagbox bit if this fails as 1. it can't get any worse and 2. I can always reload the laptop to as new and start again, and again etc....
One question is that if I install other software it won't damage the diagnosis unit software ? I don't mind trying it as long as it won't reprogram the unit and so make it no good at all.

Re: Setting up a Lexia for first use, activation etc.
I don't believe it............... it worked. What a slog, my fault for the most part as well as my old XP laptop.
Worth noting is that when the process starts it then wants you to run the Keygen bit to generate the key.
If in the process of activating I can't minimise the screen to start this, luckily I had it on another PC so ran it there.
So you have do the the first run and activation all at the same time.
I did it previously by starting Lexia3 then noting the PC no and server etc, stopping it, running Keygen to get the code, starting Lexia3 again and putting the code in.
At this point it said 'wrong code', in all I have had 3 different activation codes generated.
All over now (I hope) as up and running, I can now finally try it with a car on the other end of the wire....

Try this site John
lesamisdudiag.com
its in French so you won't have any problems.. lots of software downloads and advice for all makes, but the Lexia and Diagbox are particularly well covered.

Re: Setting up a Lexia for first use, activation etc.
Thanks for the site link chris, as they say your confidence in my french far exceeds my ability
That said it is a useful place to brush up technical terms, and use google auto translate if I need to ask them a question.
I hate computers as I worked with them for years and now don't (didn't) have to.
My main annoyance is when I set out to do something, like I did 2 days ago to check out the car, and then spend hours and days doing something else I didn't want to do, rebuilding a PC.
There is nothing worse than getting all the gear set up, cup of tea in hand and......... stop, can't find the right spanner so may as well sit in front of the telly for a bit till it turns up....
