NOOB Help with a C5 Estate

Post by jlktiling »

Hello,

Now ive introduced myself in the correct area,

I need some questions answering in on my faults on my inherited c5 estate.

1st problem, central locking.

The remote doesnt work, and the passenger rear door does not unlock at all!

suggestions to remedy this please?

and the Boot strutts have given up, are these easy to change? is there a guide anywhere?

Thanks in advance.

Hi jlktiling,

Good to have you on board :)

I can try and help with some of your questions 'til someone with more experience comes along...

I've recently changed the strut on a Xsara estate, and although slightly smaller that the C5 rear door the struts were easy to swap. Another pair of hands will be helpful to take the weight of the door but I think it took all of 5 mins.
Can't answer why the plip won't work, may need matching up again if the batts are good (you might have to search threads for that, but it comes up fairly often)
Rear door - will it open from the inside? This is a common prob, mine does this and I'll get round to taking off the door panel when it gets warmer, all the posts I've read indicate this isn't too much of a nasty one.
Enjoy the car!

Have you got a guide to changing the strut? There isnt an external strutt, it appears to be next to the hinge at the top of the boot lid.
How do you match up the fob?

To recode the key, turn ignition on but don't start car. Press and hold the lock button on the fob for about 10 seconds. That will recode the key if its lost it. The rear door is a right Pita, its usually the child locks have stuck on and the door card needs to come off to rectify it. I'd recommend anybody who buys an older C5 to turn the child locks off!

The estate tailgate struts are not at all easy to change as you have to remove the headling, both of mine are a bit weak but better in the warm weather so I will be putting it off as long as possible.

The reason that the rear door doesn't unlock might be down to a wiring failure. This happened on my Xantia, Gracie, and when (after getting advice from the forum) I investigated in the wiring grommet (from door pillar to door) I found wires that had failed. I soldered in new lengths, and now all doors are back on the central locking system.
