Xantia heater plugs

Post by froggy »

Hi, I need to change the heater plugs in my 1997 Xantia. It looks more of a challenge than my faithful old ZX. Iam wondering which are the best plugs to buy( should it be Citroen only) and do I need to buy a specialist tool to help me reach these blighters! thanks in advance Terry. :?:

read the thread in link below might help

http://www.frenchcarforum.co.uk/forum/v ... =3&t=43434" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

also if you use Beru or NGK from the likes of GSF you cant go far wrong

just stay well clear of cheap branded/fake or just plane cheap from ebay and the likes of E*C*P

I've just removed a set of NGK from my 406 which have probably been in for at least 3 and a half years. They were shagged out but in solid condition. Cheap no name ones can swell up at the tip then break off when you try to remove them, been there, done that :twisted: 8mm and 12mm flexi ratchet spanners are your best friends here, and possibly a small person with little hands for the one behind the pump.

You'll need a clean towel too froggy, to keep your hands oil free when trying to put the 8mm nut on top of the second plug in from the cambelt side.... Nasty piece of work that one is!!! Also, dont throw away the 8mm nuts from the old plugs...... just incase!!!

Magnetic telescopic extension can be useful, although one that has a protector on it ie it does not stick to the sides ;)

Or a flexi claw may help. Its usually the difficult one that's failed because in the past someone 'forgot' to change that one...

Agree about the 8mm nuts, they have a habit of going for a wander behind the pump bracket amongst other places. I found a penny coin behind mine. :D
