2.2 hdi injector removal

Post by horsedentist »

Has anyone got any tips for loosening the injectors on a 2.2 HDI. I don't know how badly seized they are but I want to remove the ones from my scrap 2.2 and put them in the one I am using. I have filled the well around the injectors with plus gas and currently letting them soak in the hope that this may help. I haven't tried very hard to get them out but they are not loose enough to move with a screw driver. I understand they may be seized solid and need an extractor to remove them but thought I would ask the question before I started struggling.

If you have access, using a blunt nosed punch, tap round the injectors . Not to hard as to crack anything, but hard enough to "shock" the threads and allow the plus gas to penetrate. Don't use a big hammer on the punch and you wont overdo the shock. We used to use what we called a "toffee hammer" and a 6-10 mm parallel punch.

Sometimes the change doesn't work.

Its not the threads as such it is the injectors in the sleeves in the head?

I only had one seized on mine and managed to remove it by undoing the studs alternately 1/2 a turn at a time.

As far as I understand the injector is usually stuck because of carbon deposits around the stem caused by 'blow by' of combustion products past the copper sealing washer.

The link below is from a site which recommends a cleaning solution to disolve the carbon. It's a product called 'Turbo Clean Set' by a company called Innotec. You can get it on ebay at around £39 for the 5 piece cleaning set.

I use paint thinners to loosen the hard carbon on the C2. It worked pretty well.

Get a large ladle and put some clean engine oil in it, heat it underneath and then pour a small amount into each injector hole. This will sizzle clearing all the crud from around the injector base, allow to cool and then have a go at removing the injector.
