Leaking Saxo

Post by isisalar »

02 plate Saxo desire is leaking water. It's collecting in the interior light (which oddly still works)and the obvious culprit is the roof mounted aerial.
Can I access this through the the light aperture?
It does have a sliding sunroof but I don't think there's any drain holes, the sunroof seals on a rubber seal a bit like a moon roof.
Is there a rubber seal to replace or is it time for the mastic gun?
Kind regards
Paul

We have a W reg Saxo desire with sliding roof.

It flooded some time ago. There are drain holes in the sunroof recess at the front corners by the A pillars. THe rubber drain pipes run inside the A pillars down behind the door hinges and to the sill.

On our Saxo the drain on the passenger side had blocked and the collected water caused the steel around the drain hole to rust. Eventually a pin hole broke through and the rain dripped into the passenger foot well.

I removed the whole sunroof assembly and took the Saxo to a local garage for a patch weld repair. It cost me £50.

I cleaned out the drain pipe, refitted the sunroof and it's been fine since.
Cheers, Kev

You can get to the aerial through the interior light assembly yes.

Regarding sunroof drains, mine does not have any despite having a tilt / slide roof. I think there's some variant on these roofs as I was shocked to find no tubes. Confirmed by pouring some water over it. There's no drain tubes on the a pillar either. The right hand pillar usually has the aerial wire running down it.

if its a slide and tilt sun roof the seal is not a seal but only a draft felt, this is not intended to stop water entering,
