C5 reverse sensors

Post by james_wild »

I have recently bought a c5.
When I bought it it had reverse sensors fitted unfortunately I have since found out that they have had a problem in the pasrt and the control box in spare wheel wel is missing and two of tbe four wires to the sensors have been cut.

How easy is it and can it be replaced

Any help most appreciated

Should be reasonably straight forward. You will need another control box, and then get someone to take a pic of the wiring so you can repair it. I probably get one in most weeks.
It may be that you will need a sensor or two as they do fail. These are pricey at £63 each +vat, I recently bought a couple off ebay used for about £25. These were MK11 ones ,which are harder to get.

What model of C5 have you got? Year and spec?

Are they standard fit sensors (standard on Exclsuive but more integrated if on C5II Exclusive) or aftermarket?

If aftermarket, what does the car have to enable the sensors? Speaker? Wiring to the reverse lights etc? Could it be that the rear bumper is a replacement item?

I got 05 plate VTR 1.6 hdi

Think they factory fitted as got indicator above rear view mirror only rear sensor and no front ones or switch on console to deactivate them.

In that case they are almost certainly aftermarket fittings. A C5II had front and rear sensors as part of the parking pack (along with power folding mirrors). The lights above the mirror are not a standard item.

Which might make repairing yours much more easy, as finding an aftermarket kit will be cheaper.

My recently-bought C5 (59-reg) came with reversing sensors, but they weren't the ones that were part of the parking sensor pack. They seem to be Citroen-approved at least (the booklet has Citroen logos etc on it), but all they are is sensors, a box which in my case is mounted in the left-side of the boot behind the trim, and a beeper which is sat between the metal and trim between the boot and the main passenger compartment. They work fine, but have no integration with any of the displays etc, they just turn on when I engage reverse and beep. The beeping behaviour is slightly different too: they beep--beep--beep when engaged, go quiet when you're at a certain distance from something, then as you approach they'l go beep--beep-beepbeep-beeeeeeep. How's that for a text description...

There are no front sensors on mine - I know what they look like and how the full parking pack works/displays (not space-finder) since I've driven an Exclusive which was factory-fitted with it.

Mine do that and make the same noise !

Mine where dealer fit and I had them done when I bought the car. The real deal ones display on the central screen.

As an after thought will the aftermarket fittings have standard plugs/fitting or will i need to replace sensors and wiring.
