MAKE SURE he doesn't drill too deep... Have you got a pipe to take with you, or you taking the car??

The Union needs to Pinch the Flare against the end of the drilling! The top is ALLOY too, so is easy to drill and tap..

(wrong side so irrelevent)but still a shock...what is best to do with my strut top to protect it untill i can afford kingas?i got underseal for the metal but what do u treat the rubber with as its a little cracked etc...not major but as weve found the rust starts there..

Clean all the loose rubber from the base and top before you fit it...

Fit it to the car then BEFORE you go anywhere! throughly apply plenty of underseal all around the bottom of the top under the wing, and apply pleanty in the surrounding area of the wing too!!!

That will do the job!

The rot starts n the first place when the rubber sucks water in at the edge's.. if the tops had an application of under seal from new, then there'd be better or a longer life from the tops...

For a Series Two top, thats rather bad, Im YET to see S2 tops in that condition, even on cars with 286k they have been in good order!

i thought id rather remove all the rubber...im finally understanding theses things! your so right ive cut away the rubber on the s2 and above the rust under the cone i can see pure untreated metal! its shocking maybe it would have been better not to fit the outer rubber but saying that this s1 has a little rust on base plate but the cone is mint the rubbers in excellent condission...i guess it could be how the cars are driven over the years and road conditions to weather the rubber lifts to move and suck in moisture...i think my cars been sabotaged lmao it really has seen the wars as such...but i will fix her shes part of my life...my friends tell me to scrap it and its a french peace of s'[t but i think only cleaver ppl have them as u have to know alot and appreaciate what ppl cant cause they dumb lol...its a bently with 4 wheel ride! thank you so much for your guideance guys ur awesome!

Ask them this question...

Where are all the FORDs and VAUXHALLs with little to NO rust, and 235k on them, that STILL dont use any oil or water, and smoke SO little its amazing the engine runs???!!!!!! Cant be that s**t can they???

An ex taxi I broke (HDi) last year had 286k on it and was STILL smokeless!

Well, thats my HDi exclusive anyway.... 235k with a tuning box and still strong as ever with little smoke!

its actually quite a simple job will take you 1hr max...take the shroud off behind steering wheel, and covers underneath steering collom then jack car up on axle stand wheel off and you can get to the allen key bolt on the uj,take it out there should be 4 bolts holding up the steering collom...loose it down slowly as a few conections to remove then giv it a good tug and u might be lucky! i on other hand forgot to line it up and since have removed the steering wheel to line it up lol! yea i just done my front brakes premium bearings bball joint track rod ends crank pully and belt numerous oil changes 4 new tyres all new spheres ( bought the tool of ebay it was a doddle!) used strap wrench in past no good! new height adjuster links gettin ready for clutch cam belt rear brakes and strut tops...the maths dont look good but the running gear will be good as new!
