please help! Strut Tops.

I kept all parts of my anatomy well out of the way.

I should have made it clear that I undid the nut only until it was slightly proud of the shaft thread. In fact, you're much less likely to damage the end of the shaft with a gentle bump from a really big hammer than by hitting hard with a smaller hammer. What I really miss for this purpose is a BIG (10lb+) lump of brass bar stock - hold in both hands with one end on target, raise several inches and release grip. A lead equivalent is easy enough to make (cast into an empty aluminium beer can , but is a bit too soft to deliver a sharp shock.

probably far to late but Ive found an add for refurbished suspension mounts (not sure if this means strut tops) series1 and series 2 models apparently proffessionally refurbished and rebuilt & Guarenteed. £125 each nominal UK postage £12 plus returnable surcharge of £50.00 each.

Argh, I'm going to need one strut top!
Trouble is I need the car daily so can't really wait for the delivery from the Lithuanian chap.

Anyone know of a half decent series one, non hydractive driver side strut top available??

ebay or scrappy and send it off...just make sure u KNOW which side u need and the seller (off ebay etc) knows what hes got..some scrappys have them on self for 30 40 quid...the bigger the scrappy the better...xant bits are hard to come by now

I would check both strut tops very carefully. It seems unusual to me that one would be on its way out while the other one is good (unless it was replaced at some time in the past).

Yesi think the other side was trenewed in the past.

I find there's hardly any scrappys any more either!

No need to split them - Id replace both sides anyway because although I see one side looks perfect, it might be hiding major issues. Are your pairs the type for series one and non hydractive? It's a very early xantia mk 1 sinker - is there any difference on the early strut tops?

No greame theres no difference in them at all they are all compatible.. i have got a pair of s2 98 sx series 2 tops on my 1994 L reg sx td.. fitted no problemm..

Yes the sets are for non hydractive.

I may well need at least one of these very soon, though being a 94 lx and battle scarred spending big money is a gamble, then again I have 12 months MOT at least and good engine...
Citroen suggested that they can still get them, though I wont know for sure untiol I order i guess. £139.67 plus VAT each, plus they suggest i'd need the cylindar boot too at £10.21 plus VAT. Thats £180 and the job still needs doing by my mechanic or me if I dare or a local guru?

There is a pattern copy part by 'Original BIRTH' anyone used these? best sticking to genuine parts or good used parts?

Look up elastomer.eu - a company in Lithuania.

They renew your old struts for 160€ + 21% VAT (one pair).

The package from Lithuania to Sweden costs 22€ + VAT and it took nearly three weeks so be patient...

Elastomer also renew XM struts and BX (although I never heard that BX have problems with the struts...?)
