Pah! Loads of stuff peeps don't tell the authorities.
Many accidents are caused by falling asleep at the wheel. One of the main causes is having Daniel O'Donnel CD's on while not declared on yer policy

Look at (I think) this issue of AutoExpress - there's an article in there about why you might wish to think again, about removing a DPF.

Basically, apart from the insurance implication, just because the car will pass the basic MoT smoke test, does not mean that the emissions are legal; - it's all connected with Construction and Use regulations.

Some cars of the same model and engine type do have a lower road tax band because of having a DPF fitted, so if you were to remove the DPF from a car with a lower tax band it should be reclassified to the higher band to keep it legal....Personaly I would recommend that you head straight to the nearest vehicle licensing office as soon as the DPF was removed to inform them :rofl2:

The whole system of road tax based on emissions is ridiculous, a car with an auto box will have a higher tax band that the equivalent manual, some cars have been awarded a lower tax band because the have energy efficient tyres fitted when new...that's just mental....

A 151cc motorbike pays more road tax than a 1400 cc diesel car....come on....

Cheers.

OK, thanks. I now understand why the wife's car tax costs twice as much as mine, even though she has a fully working DPF on her car. #-o

So, lexia+galetto+long drill bit. I don't think it will reduce the tax next year but It's tempting me.

Anybody know where I can get a second hand DPF for a 2007 C5 2.2HDI 173 BHP VTR+ please, yes I have had mine removed completely on advice, but hey ho he was in the wrong, just wanna get back to being legal. I have tried e bay and other sites, maybe wondering if any member has any other ideas where I can get one from, I know I can get one from main dealer, but its very very expensive.

Thanks

But things like an auto box and energy efficient tyres do influence the vehicle's CO2 emission level, so will naturally be reflected in a vehicles VED, given that it is an emissions based tax. (And strictly speaking the VED is not a 'Road Tax' at all but a carbon tax. In fact there has been no such thing as 'Road tax', as in a hypothecated tax raised on vehicle use and spent on the roads, since the last true 'Road tax' was abolished by Winston Churchill in the 1930s!)

But most motorcycles, at least until very recently, had very little in the way of emission controls on them, whereas, for example, a modern Fap equipped diesel car will emit fewer particulates than are present in the air drawn into the engine. A 151 - 400 cc motorbike might pay slightly more than a band 'C' car, but will still pay around a third of the VED for a band 'D' car whilst very likely emitting more pollution, especially if it is fitted with carburettors / does not have a cat fitted.
