This is why I suggested that if it's bad enough to need sanding, use a hard sanding block even with very fine paper, as a soft one will just conform to what is under it.citronut wrote:it also must depend on how hard the paint splash's/spots have become, the harder they are the more eroding around the splash/spot you will wear more of the surface finish away

Re: Paint removal
I still have T/Cut in the garage. If it's so bad for the paintwork, I'm why it's still on sale?

Mostly because for Jo public it does the job! It sells as many people are Told to Tcut the car, so they go and buy Tcut! ;not everyone is comfortable going into a car care place and just want to pop to the local shop and get some,

Re: Paint removal
I've often used white spirit to remove tar spots, is it safe?

Is it safe
Re: Paint removal
i always suggest people use kitchen cream cleaner ( CIF ) instead of Tcut as its a lot cheaper and almost as good for buffing car paint work,
but i still wouldn't use it in this case, ans i would still use a solvent to remove paint spots

Re: Paint removal
Thanks for all the useful information that this thread has thrown up.
To clarify my OP:- When the door slid down the side of the car it left a fair bit of paint on the upper edge of the styling line that runs along the car, being the widest point, apart from the rubbing strips. From experience I knew that any amount of rubbing in this area with an abrasive polish, being a high spot, could easily go through the laquer which I was keen to avoid, hence wanting the information on solvents.
The 'wonder wipe's' performed far better than expected, and solved the problem entirely removing every last bit of the paint from the door.
I polished the car Monday and used them to clean the white polish residue from the matt black bits, they removed the shiny dressing which had been applied in the past and they're now the original matt and look like new. Exellent for dashboards too.
Can't recommend them enough.
Cheers
Paul
