C4 Fan not working

Hi Folks My daughter has an 09 C4 and when she jumped in this morning the heater fan was not working. All had been well till then, she swung by the Citroen main nasties and they immediately started talking costs in telephone numbers.
Can someone give me a list of what to check bearing in mind she hasn't even opened the bonnet yet !

Well heater fan is in the car, so no need to open the bonnet, is it a saloon or a Picasso ?
