Your C5 being a fully hydractive will have 6 spheres.

It doesn't need to have solid or no suspension to have to replace the spheres. If it does the spheres should have been replaced a long time before. However a harsh ride or a more springy ride will indicate a change is needed.

Most likely, they are the ones responsible for the soft ride.

You can get paired ones a little cheaper but as the front and rear are different that is about the price. If you can check that it is switching into soft mode then the spheres will be the problem. Mileage will be a fair indicator, my 2.2 has done about 150k and they are still good but I have just replaced the fronts on the 2.0. at about 188k and they were pretty flat, the rears are even worse, I have some replacememnt but not fitted them yet.

I'm not a fan of guessing at spheres; easy to get them pressure tested by an indie. Ten percent loss on stamped rating is replacement time - unless you're game to drill and tap for the Tecnosir fittings.

It's an Italian-made system (they are a sphere maker) which uses screw-in valves that mean your spheres may be recharged several times in their life, by someone with a nitrogen bottle.
