Xantia HDI noise

Post by Nigel Darwell »

My Xantia HDI engine gas started making a light tapping noise at 3000 rpm and above. It sounds like a noisy tappet and is speed related. Also it seems to vary in intensity, some days its almost gone alltogether, on others it sounds like a tractor ! Any ideas ?

First stage - check all ancilliaries and drive belts - they can make a surprising noise.
secondly - is it transmission related? - does it make any difference if the clutch is depressed?

There wa a post about this on HonestJohn's forum a couple of weeks back - related to the crankshaft pulley breaking up. Symptoms there were rattle at cold start, but I would certainly check the condition of this pulley.

All belts seem tight, no difference when clutch pressed. May be louder under load, but not significantly.

Hi
I've got the same problem on my W 2000 Xantia 110 HDI 62000. I've not sorted the problem yet but when the auxillary drive belt is taken off the noise goes away. Still investigating.
Cheers
Howie
