Citroen mobile where are they now?

Post by isisalar »

Going back to the time I had my first BX and Xantia in the late nineties I used to use an outfit called 'Citroen mobile' who as the name suggests offered a mobile service, servicing and repairing Citroens, I had some spheres and cambelts done by them at reasonable prices.
They were based I think in Northampton but did come down to London fairly often. If they're still in business I would like to get in touch with them.
Can anyone help?
Or recommend anyone else, I don't mind a bit of travelling.
I'm very happy with my local(ish) indy but £60 +vat per hour and spheres @ 47.50 +vat it's not something I can indulge in very often.
I want to do a Hydraflush and a few sphere changes soon and my days of lying down at the roadside are coming to an end.
Kind regards
Paul

Roy Williams on the Slough trading estate apparently has a good reputation, he used to work for Citroen UK training their mechanics so should know what he's doing.

Thanks Richard.Do you mean Ray Williams? I suspect they'll be a similar price to the indy judging from their website.
I'll be in touch about the lexia session when the weather improves a bit.
Kind regards

Have you got any good Trout, Salmon, or Sea fishing available locally? I've never been to Wales and would like to. How many miles are you from London?
Cheers

Please don't think I'm being facetious, but
£60+VAT per hour seems to be the going rate now for Citroen indies and general garages. It's very likely that those "reasonable prices" which you paid in the nineties to Citroen mobile have increased to something similar. I'm old enough to remember paying 4/10d - modern day 25p - per GALLON for petrol but it doesn't help to compare that with modern day costs.

This is a bit closer to you two hours up the M4 near the South Wales West Gloucestershire border. Plenty more like it around here.

He's probably undercharging by contemporary prices - does he own his premises and all equipment?

I wouldn't dispute that £72 per hour is a realistic rate to charge in a well equipped garage but when a large proportion of the local population are willing to work for less than that for a day it does make it a bit tricky for a tradesman to generate enough income to afford John D.
Thanks for the link Gibbo, love a bit of Barbel fishing.
