Quick update on this one.

The Citroen tech's where the car was taken have now diagnosed the problem as being a duff injector but the Honda dealer has not let them replace it but taken it back in house for their tech's to finish the job (obviously money saving).

I remember seeing a post about new injectors needing to be registered to the vehicle with a lexia. Is that correct ? if so what info do we need from the new / recon injector.

The saga continues.

The car was ready on Friday after being away for a little over 2 weeks. It has had a new injector fitted (No 3 from cam belt end) and the loud ticking noise has now gone.

They also said that the EGR had been reprogrammed but I don't no how they did that as I thought they either opened or closed dependant on engine speed etc. Could someone confirm this please.

He went out to start it from cold on Saturday morning and it was no different at all, running on 3 cylinders for about 10 to 15 seconds when it then runs on 4.

Back to Honda this evening so it will be cold on Monday morning for the service manager to see and hear.

That is certainly very annoying for all concerned.
Keep up the commentary.

The End !

The Honda dealer have thrown in the towel on this vehicle and given my son a full refund.

He took it back to them on Monday and they took it it back to a Citroen dealership which we think was Citroen Manchester (part of Citroen Retail Group). They diagnosed that the car required a "major bottom end rebuild" and the Honda Dealer was not prepared to pay for it.

Its symptoms where bad starting (on 3 cylinders) and when it got going you could always feel as if it was mis-firing slightly. It also used quite a bit of fuel compared to mine.

My son is gutted really as it was a very nice car and the dealer can't be to pleased either as they have spent quite a bit on it.

Asked what they would do with it, they will pass it on to the trade !

Gosh!

I wonder if duff dribbling injectors did for the bottom end by causing oil contamination.

I'd say it was likely the petrol that did it, misfueling has been discussed.

I should have said also fair play to the dealer. You couldn't have been treated any better under the circumstances, and guess where you'd recommend anyone interested in a Honda or indeed any other used car to go.?
It would probably be a good place to start looking for a replacement. They might fight shy of finding you a direct replacement though LOL.
Certainly a letter to someone high up at Honda praising the way you've been treated by the dealership would be good for them and I think they deserve some praise.

Excellent service without a doubt. As suggested, a letter of praise to Honda would be welcome :)
