C5 2.2 Auto suspension woes

Post by andybsmith »

I have a C5 2.2 Exclusive the front end seems very firm the back end seems very soft and I get a fair amount of roll. If I hit the sport button it seems to reduce the roll and firm up the rear end. My question is is it spheres or struts/rams.

The front will always be firmer than the rear, if the spheres are in good order you should be able to bounce the back of the car up and down about 6" without to much effort, the front maybe 4" with quite a lot of effort, the movement should be the same on both sides.

If all four spheres are good you will get some roll as the suspension is designed for comfort rather than speed, might be worth checking that all four anti roll bar drop links are connected.

4 anti rollbar drop links? I thought that there were only 2 one on each front strut. Are there drop links on the rear as well?

For Peter N there are six spheres on a 2.2 :-) This problem is almost certainly the centre sphere or the associated electrovalve. A lexia allows you to switch the center electro valves so that the firmness can be compared. Anti roll bar drop links there are two at the front, at the rear torsion bar is bolted on to the arm bearings, no drop links.

Showing my ignorance again  I should know because I have one of each but the last one I worked on was the 2.0. and I have a very short memory.
