Citroen C3 HDi Gearbox, Part number please chassis no. added

Post by Andy F »

Hi,

I have a neighbour who has a 2003 C3 HDi with a damaged gear box. He was phoning around to get quotes for a new one, but he was unsure which gear box he has/needs. I think he has been offered 5 different part numbers so he was a little confused. Its a manual 1.4 HDi Desire

It has the following numbers on the gearbox so can anybody please help identify what 'box is and where a replacement may be sourced from

00CP67 AND 0011349.

Sorry this is a bit of a vague request, this is all the info he gave me. if i have omitted any important information please say what i need and ill ask him for more details.

Many thanks
Andy

If you ask him for the VIN number it can be input into service.citroen to get the exact part number, post it here and someone will do it, sam

Double zero CP six seven is the variant. The other is its unique production ID.

Hi Andy, afraid i can't figure out how to upload a screenshot of the screen but here are part numbers,

2222 XH -Probably the one you want
01 NEW MEC GEARBOX
CP(17X61)
MARKING CQ03 (CQ41) CQ41 (CQ60) CP67 (CP67) CQ60 (CQ03)
- -
+ 6556 EQ + 6922 76 (1)

2223 QJ

01 EXCHANGE MEC GEARBOX
CP (17X61)
MARKING (CPF7) CP67 CPF7

With regards to cost, Citroen want £4400 for the new one and £1700 for the recon, so id imagine the best
place to look for a replacement would be a breakers. Id imagine its quite a common gearbox as the 1.4 hdi
was used across a few citroen/peugeot and maybe ford?

Hope that helps

Hi Sam,

Thanks very much for getting this information. Im afraid Im a little more confused though. When I search on ebay for HDi boxes, I get numbers like

20DM53 for an 8v xsara
20DM25 for a 16v c3
20DM14 for an 04 307

I was expecting a DM something something number lol.
What do the DM numbers mean? Is that a part number?

According to my neighbour thsre are 4 varieties of the same thing.
Thanks again, I really appreciate your time.

We're on the verge of going around in circles.

No scrappie is going to identify a used gearbox by the part number provided when he punches a donor VIN into Servicebollox or Service Citroën.

Usually they're going to be identified by car, year and motor.

If you press them for further detail, the number you need to match is that one with CP in it.

If the gearbox is an MA series, they are intrinsically weak and a used one will only get you to where it fails next time - a renewal of bearings is always good practice.

Agree with Addo, unless your planning to buy from citroen or possibly other company refurbishing gearbox's a part number to a scrappy
will be useless, he will identify them by whatever is stamped on the casing, or the model of the car/engine.
I dont really recognise the DM number you list but imagine they must be variant naumbers as stamped on the casing.
Check and double check any gearbox you are getting from a scrappy, for instance the xsara gearbox you state cannot be the 1.4hdi
as this was never fitted to the xsara (at least in the UK).
Your neighbour might be referring to a series of gearbox's such as MA, BE which will be used across a range of models/engines, thus the variation
will be in gear ratio's e.t.c, so important you get the exact variation rather than general series.
Best bet might be to ring around to find a low mileage vehicle identical to yours being broken, including year, as they can sometimes vary
mid model (facelift e.t.c), Sam
