Timing belt set for 1999 2.0 HDI Xantia

Post by citroDane »

Hi gents,

I have a 1999 2.0 HDI 90hp MKII Xantia. Found reasonably-priced replacement kits (belt, pulley/tensioner, water pump) in a German webshop. Just don't know which of these fits my car:

http://www.citropart-shop.de/index.php/ ... Motor.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Seems they got at least two different pumps and the belts are 114 or 136 cogs (teeth). Any help on which of these is the right set for my Xantia is truly appreciated.

Cheers,
Gabriel

You will need to speak to somebody who can (with the VIN number) determine which compressor is fitted for the Air Con, as there are at least two different compressors, which means different belts, etc. However, if you go onto Euro Car Parts, and type in your reg, they normally get the right kit.

EDIT; Spotted you are in Croatia, so Euro Car Parts cannot help. Sorry!

Thanks guys. I will try contacting the guys at citroparts and see if they can determine that from the vin number.
Btw HellRazer, isn't it the auxiliary (/ drive) belt that engages the the AC compressor pulley rather than the timing belt?

Hi Citrodane,

I too am in the market for a timing belt kit with water pump and I have also seen a company called ATP who are based in Germany and advertise on Ebay.

What worries me is what sort of quality the parts are as they are very well priced....

The 'buy cheap. buy twice' motto always worries me...

CitroDane, you could easily be right re. the air con. However, you will still need to use the reg/vin number to get the correct parts.

Just a thought. As the aux belt has to come off anyway to allow the timing belt to be replaced, it probably is worth getting it done at the same time. Shouldn't add much to the labour time/cost.

Hi Merle,
I hear you. I've generally had good experiences with German aftermarket parts. The question is if the parts these guys are selling are in fact German-made. I agree these kits are a bit too cheap and given the labour involved in replacing the belt is substantial I am not entirely free from worry myself. 8-[ So you're basically making a good point. It's just Citroen here in Croatia asks for an arm and a leg from me for the same kit without the pump. I did use to buy my parts from them till they just became absolutely shameless! :evil:

I've found a supplier on Ebay selling Gates kits including the water pump - apparently Gates are as good as you can get where timing belts are concerned:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/110791021722? ... 1438.l2649" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

I think I'll go with this one....

Right on both counts. Definitely makes a lotta sense to replace the aux belt at the same time. :)

Thanks. I'll ask him if he ships to Croatia (ebay says he may not).

Hi citronxm,

The last two kits that have the belt with 136 teeth come with smaller tensioners that sit in some kind of linkage / bracket arrangement, which I can't remember from the first replacement job I had Citroen do for me some years back.

So I'm thinking it must be the shorter one with 114. But even then they have two sets with different water pumps, so I guess I need to contact them and ask them to find out which fits mine.

Gabriel
