yes i agree traders do have to make a living. unfortunatly im not one of the people that can afford to lose a few hundred quid. never had a problem selling a car normally the first one to see it buys it. finding a good car to replace it is the hardest part

I don't see the problem with criticising an "open market" business. People are similarly free to accept or reject my quotes, or discuss them with third parties.

That said, I'd be last person to sell a car. Might give one away but otherwise they're keepers and I consider they owe me nothing.

I must have been lucky with ebay up to now then, both selling and buying :) everyone has turned up and paid no hassle. The vehicles I've bought have been good too.
My descriptions 'novels' are probably over the top though :)

Worst experiences of ebay have been things sent poorly packed from the States. Ebay has sorted these issues out too.

Just to keep on topic WBAC offered me 50 quid for my CX too a few years back :)

They Dont "Want" XM's either, they werent in the list too...

The point I was making with the 75 quid was even with the large milage Ive seen, Xantia HDi still sell for good prices! Certainly a damm sight more then £75 quid. I wasn't necesarly trying to make a massive debite..

Was in the sort of hope that someone just MIGHT - only MIGHT of said, well Paul, with a full MOT and everything fix then she must be worth 500 quid! Not £75 quid

Anyway, been some interesting reads on here.

Does anyone know how the WBAC business model works ? Do they sell the cars they buy into the trader network ? auction them ? do they have their own selling company owned at arms length which sell the cars ? anything over 'x' years old automatically goes to scrap ? Just curious !
Sadly no longer a C5 owner :(

I don't believe high mileage Xantia HDIs do sell for good money. Rattiva didn't, and she was fully sorted by Jim with a years MOT and 7 months tax.

but the leather was not in good order.....

I would of bought it, as I prefer the Grey to Silver. But the leather would of put me off too. Mine on 230k, theres no sign of any holes in it yet..

One seat had a hole in it, but the rest was vgc. What a bizarre mentality, being bothered about a 50 quid seat repair or replacement when the rest of the car is mechanically excellent.

Indeed I do have first hand knowledge of the WBAC business model, having worked for the car supermarket who owns them, in fact there was a WBAC office on site, where the business was conducted.
The online 'valuation' is a figure to get you there with your car, docs etc.
The buyer then makes you an offer which is a figure that they feel they are certain to make a profit on if they send the car to auction, which is the only way they dispose of the vehicles.
The buyers get a commission in the usual way on the profit they generate
They don't drive the cars and aren't at all concerned about mechanical condition. When you've left your car the next journey it makes is onto the auction transporter and that's the end of their interest in the vehicle.
Would be a good way to 'toe drop' a late car with a expensive fault, say a Prius with a duff battery, but otherwise its just a way to turn your car into cash if that's what you need.
Kind regards
Paul

I was mighty impressed when I entered dads C2 HDi in.. Black 58 plate IIRC, 49k or so, they offered 2,300 for it. We paid 2k last year with a dodgy throttle sensor that a member here wonderfully diagnosed and I fixed!

I buy and sell all mine on ebay, you get the 'real world' price when you sell and can pick up some real bargains if you are prepared to do a little work.

They did not VALUE your car..........they made you an offer on it.

If you get four quotes on a job with the cheapest being a grand and the dearest being 3 Grand.......what will you take?

So you take the cheapest when buying ( usually) and demand the most when selling :-D We all do it! If you went to an auction and managed to get something well under the value...........would you be a con artist? What you think a car is worth and what many different businesses ,individuals ,collectors or enthusiasts think, are different things. Who actually wants these cars and are prepared to pay for them? Certainly not 99per cent of the general public. Now let me think.........who is it that WBAC sell to?
