Forte diesel treatment

Post by imperial21 »

Hi Has anyone used the Forte diesel treatment ?
I am not completely happy with my C5 s fuel consumption again i did a 250 mile trip today and averaged about 50 to the gallon and around town is 35 ish.
So i thought it might be good time to give the cars fuel system a clean out to see if it improves things ?

I've been thinking of running something like this through my Xantia diesel. I've a long trip to do at the end of January. I think I might pick a bottle of this up and use it then with a full tank of fuel.

Yes, I use Forte. It is good and you should notice an improvement to performance and economy. I would say let your fuel get lowish, put it in and go for a good long blast using all of the rev range.

I do this with our C5s and they are all the better for it.

The turbo cleaner is a new product they have out and first reports suggests it works very well.

I don't use it that regularly but did use it when I first bought the car, put a bottle in a 1/4 full tank and ran to near empty.
I always put at least one bottle into a full tank when I do an oil change and the car does run smoothly, how much is due to the diesel treatment hard to say.

I am a believer in such things and generally try to use one twice a year (if I remember) which is about 2k miles for me.
I use Forte because it is a respected brand, there are others at about the same price but I will stick with what I know.
I have used the engine flush to good effect so would guess the other products work just as well.

I will take a look at the turbo cleaner when it has been out a while, sounds like a good idea.

I've used a few of these additives - Forte and Redex amongst others. I am yet to be convinced that they have any effect at all other than psychological - i.e. "I've spent a fiver so it MUST work".

If I could find an *independent* review, with before and after pictures of the injectors, then it might help, a google search doesn't turn up anything at all. Plenty of owners reviews claiming it works, or that it doesn't work, but nothing independent.

I drive calmly not usually over 2k revs, I am usually driving about 60ish on the motorway, I find the car comfortable and no hurry if i can help it ! I have to admitt yesterday i had to do about 70 on the first side of the trip, but was 60 back. I like to think i am light footed, I am considering replacing the air flow meter to see if it improves things, I gave mine a clean with brake cleaner a couple of days ago and i dont know if its improved things, I compare my c5 to my xantia and i found that much better on diesel, I could get 38 round town and 60 on a run easily. I expect there is some weight differnece between the 2.

For many years I've had four cars to get MOT'd each year so I got to know the MOT guy fairly well. Before he retired he gave me a bottle of Fortes treatment. Apparently if they had a vehicle for MOT which failed the diesel smoke test and was left with the garage for correction, the first remedy they tried was Fortes directly into the fuel filter, followed by a drive up the road in a low gear.

Driving at 60mph you should be getting 60mph or over I would have thought. I always do 70 ... ish and seem to better your economy with our 110 C5. I find my 110 Xantia and the 110 C5 is about the same for economy, the Xantia might be a tiny bit better but there is not much in it.

Is your cars MAF a genuine one? Has it got partnumbers and a decent brand on it? Cheap ones are often blank of writing ... and in my experience dont work nearly half as well, unless our car had been fitted with a faulty one, it was new when we got that particular car.
