2.2 HDI injector change experience

Post by horsedentist »

I have a noisy injector and thought I would swap the injectors from my donor c5 to the auto as it was running nicely before the belt broke. Then Citrojim lobbed a spanner in my works and said I should probe here first. So I googled the issue and was horrified at some of the experiences has anyone here managed to service their injectors? Are they always seized or do they come out if you are lucky?

You can get removal tools on ebay for reasonable cost, or there is a firm that will come and remove them for you.

My injectors were recently removed with no problems at all. I think the chap that did it said only was was a little tight due to a bit of rust.

Good luck, still waiting for mine to be fixed due to bent con rods (tip do not drive and in floods).

Some have been lucky to get them out.. I was on a 2.2 once. I DID find though, they came out easyer of a HOT engine which soften and expands everything..

However, the moral is its very common for 2.2 injectors to completey Refuse to come out! Ive heard even many dealers have had to resort to scrapping engines due to failiure....

They are not the easyest...

Also remember to fit NEW fire proof washers and fit a plastic sleeve too, else its just not worth it..

Once the "Coal" appears around the top of the injectors uless its there already then it IS fun and games

Anyone got a fool proof method of identifying which one is actually knocking? One is obviously blocked as it makes that diesel knock on tick over and when accelerating you get that sound like a stick on bicycle spokes. If I could work out which one it was I would be tempted to have a go and see if it would come out rather than chancing my luck with the lot.

Use a stethoscope or maybe a long screwdriver?

Try heating a little oil and pouring it down the injector hole, this is a good cure for sticking injectors in the Mercedes straight 6 diesel engine. Or as a second option try this firm, they have a good rep for removing injectors in situ and they come to you..

To find which injector is sticking why not use 4 bottles and do the leak back test.

After reading all the replies here, I think I might have to get another Diesel engine for my latest addition to the fleet. The engine has what I assume to be a hydraulic lock. The injectors aren't the same as my 2005 estate Diesel which is strange, but not for Citroen. Until then I'll have to break into the estate and get it running again.
