I have exactly the same problem on my 2.2 HDI the recalibration section is under the suspension ecu and will come up with instructions on the lexia when selected but I think you need a big flat area to do it, if I have read it correctly, as you need to drive it to recalibrate. Firstly in a straight line then moving the steering wheel a a quarter turn right and then left.
I haven't done mine as yet because i need to find a big enough area to do it.

Well mine hasn't been apart all that happened was, I took it and had the wheels balanced, a few hours later the esp light came on. I have read that if you mess with the tracking at all you have to recalibrate it so presumably swapping wheels about has the same effect.

Does it come on as soon as you turn the key on and then go off and come back on again? Does the deactivate switch work?

Yep comes on when you switch the ignition on and doesn't go off at all switch doesn't work. If I clear the steering sensor fault it will stay off until I drive off then it will come back on and the fault will be back.
Oh and the service light comes on with it too.

yes "steering wheel sensor incoherent " I have been driving it round for weeks before this with no problems at all and as I have been working on other problems on it I would have noticed this fault had it been there. The problem is that it effects the abs as well so that's why the esp drops out. I will post the results when I get round to recalibrating it and let you know if it sorts the problem.

Sounds like mine.... I turned the steering wheel to the left a couple of turns so the steering wheel was in the straight a head position, started the car and the ESP light went out. I then pressed the button and it deactivated.

have you tried it in any other straight ahead postition, wheels to the left or right?

Took the C5 and had the tracking done today as I thought it was silly not too if I was going to recalibrate the steering (was miles out) recalibrated the steering cleared all the faults and it is working fine no more esp/asr faults.

Sounds like your tyre fitter was lazy and adjusted the tracking only on one side.

Well it was strange because I had done a few hundred miles in it over the last few weeks and no problems at all until I had the wheels balanced and they swapped them about when they put them back on. Then about 20 miles later the bloomin steering fault popped up put esp/asr and service light on. I only had the tracking checked because I thought if I was going to reset the steering I might as well have it done so all avenues were covered. Any way she runs like a dream now done a couple of hundred miles and no lights are on and no snide comments from the computer :-D
