Just wondering whether I should disturb the fuel filter? Had the car 50000miles, never touched this. Should I try to drain out any gunge/water? How? What symptoms or noises would tell me I should change filter or try to drain ? Problems doing either of these?

Re: Xantia Hdi90 year 2000
HDi filters are rather easy to do....
Put a small tub under the drain and open the tap... drain a bit out... Un clip the two pipes on each side of the top.. they are like a sqeeze clip...
then with a 20mm or 21mm socket undo through I THINK 90 deg and lift the top off... the top should come away on its own and leave the filter in the bottom. There should be a wavy circular "Spring" sitting on the top of the filter too... Recover this. Lift the filter out refit the new one, It will only sit in one way... and sit flush with the top. Replace the rubber seal along the outer edge of the cartridge, not always easy to see... place the spring back on the filter and re fit the top in reverse...
I REALLY find it hard to see how people break these or have trouble with them. YES the spigots can get brittle, but a bit of care should see you right. 50k on a single filter ... tut tut! Thats not looking after the Pump at all! Fuel filters are just as important as oil filters too!
There be no signs of anything untill crap starts getting into the pump and then its good buy fuel pump like on my car, so PERSONAL experiance shown here! And this is ME who tells everyone to reguraly change ALL filters...
As long as the seal is in place and the two pipes are clipped in correctly, they are different sizes so you cant get them wrong, when you turn the key on the lift pump will do all the priming. When I do it, I switch the key wait for the pump, switch off do it again and make sure all air is back in the tank before a start.. you will hear it all go "Brup" back into the tank if you listen....

Re: Xantia Hdi90 year 2000
I have changed the fuel filter on Gracie, and it is as simple as citroenxm says it is. With care it can easily be done in half an hour. Just make sure the seal is properly seated, otherwise you can get problems.

I have been meaning to do this on the Berlingo for about 3 months now. I *WILL* do it tomorrow. Thanks CitroenXM for the instructions.. I've done loads of TD filters, but never an HDI one before. I had read stories of people breaking them, so was a bit wary. I might even do the C5, seeing as I've got both a Bosch and Siemens filter in stock.

Re: Xantia Hdi90 year 2000
C5 Filters ARE different to the Xantia ones, and a little easyer in process...
The filter house idealy on the C5 needs to come off and is bolted on by two 10mm nuts.. Theres an electrical plug on the top of them too, and its a different filter.. wiether its siemans or bosch. The top OUTER has a screw cap, after the pipes and plugs are removed, but theres no use of a 21mm socket needed on them...The middle section then comes away with the filter, split them, re-fit the new filter and fit to the house, then screw the outer lid back on.. Ive no idea about berlingo ones, never done one of those.
The Original description above in my FIRST POST appears SO FAR TO BE FOR THE XANTIA 90 and 110 MODELS ONLY!
C5 and 406 filters ARE different!

I can't imagine the Berlingo is that much different. I'll do it and write some instructions/take some pics and post them for anyone else who might be doing it.citroenxm wrote:C5 Filters ARE different to the Xantia ones, and a little easyer in process...

My C5 is definitely a Bosch system, and the Berlingo is a Siemens system. I've got both filters. They housings are different as you say. It's too dark , and I'm at work now, or I'd go and take a couple of pics so you could comment on the Berlingo. I suspect being a 90 HDI Siemes, it's not much different to a Xantia SX
