I'm following the crowd with Purflux filter and Millers XFE. XFE is plentiful in West Yorkshire because it's made in Brighouse. Can get 5 litres for £12.75.

Currently using Purflux oil filter and MAN (I think) air filter and Morris's turbo diesel oil. Have used Castrol GTD and a semi synthetic as well as Halfords and Champion filters - can I tell the difference - no. Will it affect longevity - who knows - and as Jon recently told us of a GSF customer who had done 900,000 miles on his BX I don't expect I'll ever find out as mine has only done 190,000 miles.

I use the perflux filter and whatever semi synth oil GSF have available. Interesting that most semi synth oils these days seem to meet both the petrol and diesel specs.
I used to run my BX TD on decent oil (I got it at 66k, so don't know about before that) and when I took the head off at 136k, the honing marks were still visible on the bores and there was no appreciable wear ridge at the top of the bores[8D]
Tip - send your significant (female) other to GSF - my wife always seems to manage to get a discount at the Glasgow branch[:D][:D]

ZX Td: Purflux LS867 filter, Total Q5000D diesel oil
Berlingo 1868cc DW8: Purflux LS923. Total Q7000 semi synthetic.
Both also have Purflux diesel filters fitted.

Millers XFE semi-synthetic, as the full-synthetic leaks out too fast :)
Nice and cheap andyspares purflux filters.
I can second the "visible honing marks" remark; at 146000 on a 1992 1.9TD. Impressive after you've seen the state of Japanese motorbike engines after only 30k...

I changed it last weekend. Used the purflux filters and some semi-synthetic oil for GSF. Oil filter came off by hand - wow.

I always use Purflux oil filters and Millers XFE in my various XUD's.
Wish I could get XFE for £12.75. Filters are very cheap from GSF and are the best you can use.

Ralph,
Where do you get your XFE @12.75 from?
The best I can do is GSF Total @ £20-ish, or special offer Halfrauds (badged Comma - made by Shell) for c. £17.50. Both 5l.

RG: Champion Motor spares in Leeds Road, Bradford, do XFE for £12.75. They're also now selling a new Millers semi-synth which conforms to the VAG diesel engine requirements for about £17. The fully synth Millers is sold for about £20. Millers diesel mineral oil is less than £8.
Also in Bradford, Wida components in Rutland Street, East Bowling, sells all the Millers stuff and is cheap.
If you're nowhere near Bradford, the Millers website gives a list of outlets. You can even buy it direct from their factory shop in Brighouse – who knows, they might even sell Millers slippers and baseball caps for serious fans.
