Hi when pulling away changing gear car seems sluggish

First gear is very short and there's not much there even with the 2.2, its all about the 2nd/3rd gear grunt. You could check the vacuum swirl control valve arm on the right hand side of the engine is functioning, it turns the engine from a 12 valver to 16v at 2200rpm, you should feel a small surge when the revs hit 2200rpm

Fitted a new swirl valve bin told it might be the Maf senser

Check for slack in the accelerator cable, on the right hand side under the fuse box.
Volvo S80 D5.........
C5 2.2HDi Exclusive 2003 manual (now gone).
2009 Renault Megane, the misses drive.
