Xantia V6 Auto Problem solved

Post by fastred »

Update to my earlier post concerning engine hesitating and flat spots,

A week ago I removed the green coolant sensor and checked its resistance both hot and cold. The results were in line with those I had seen quoted, so I cleaned and refitted the sensor - car then seemed to be running OK.

Two days later the hesitation re-appeared, followed by stalling and then violent juddering, making the car almost undriveable. Once the revs went over about 3k things seemed to clear, so I limped in 3rd gear to my local indy Citroen specialist (not a pleasant journey in heavy traffic with the car wanting to stall every time it came to rest) to get a diagnostic check carried out,

Check showed "coolant sensor shorting to earth, oxygen sensor also showing a fault", The guy said that there were two coolant sensors, but that he would order the green one first and that the O2 sensor reading would probably clear itself once the coolant one had been replaced.

Next day he rang me to say that the sensor had been fitted, faults had cleared, and the car had been road tested both cold and hot and all was well. it has been fine since.

The annoying thing is that I could I have fixed this myself had I thought to check the sensor's resistance to earth while I had it out, thus saving myself £50 in labour charges.

Hope this is of help to Mandrake and anyone else with a similar problem.

That's excellent news fastred :-D

It is amazing just how much aggro a slightly duff coolant temperature sensor causes on the V6 and deligted yours is now all sorted...

Thanks fastred, although the symptoms are not quite what I'm seeing I'll still take it to heart. I have a new MAP sensor waiting at my local post depot (delivery was attempted during 10 minutes we were out today  ) and if there are any remaining symptoms my next port of call will be the green coolant temperature sensor.

Its very VERY wet today with lots of standing water on the roads, after about 15 minutes driving on the motorway it felt even more down on power than usual, no zip to it at all, although some of that could have been drag from all the standing water.
