Thanks.
The door handle lights work. So not the brightness thing.

I check my tailgate several times in an evening and once before bed. Sure I will get used to it.
On the old c5s I was often unlocking the doors when the key was in a pocket and I bent down or something. At least it would auto lock.

OK, the rains off. The two "screw holes" are the bulbs. About 150 mm apart and recessed well into the top of both front door bins. The lights come on whith a bluish glow when your hand is placed in the door bin. You can put your hand into the centre of the bin, not under either lamp, and the two lights come on before you get right into the bin. Don't know where the sensor(s) is but it seems to work fairly well, as the lights don't come on when I fiddle about with the electric seat settinsg or brush my hand past the bin. Maybe they have to be enabled somewhere?

I believe Citroen stopped fitting the door bin lights when they upgraded the 2.0 engine.

I think the door light sensor is somekind of inductor loop. You can see it in this picture of the door panels backside (yellow wire that comes out of little black box, and makes a loop behind door panel): http://www.saunalahti.fi/jepujep/Autohifit/IMG_2133.JPG" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Been through manual and cannot see mention I the pocket lights mentioned. So looks like you have to choose the more powerful 2.0 engine or pocket lights. Phew, glad I didn't know that when I bought it

Can't understand the connection really. Why would my 2.2 173 have it? Why drop the bin lights because it's a more powerfull engine?

P118 is seat belts :-(
Like those would be more use than magic lights.

I think Citroen is just saving on trim level - again. The very first Xantias (-93) had high trim-level; electric windows in all doors on all models etc., but very soon a lot of these were dropped. My series two HDi had manual winders in the back, eventhough it was the higher trim level with "wood"-panels etc.

One good example regarding C5 is laminated side glasses; on my -08 Exclusive both front and rear side glasses are laminated, but on newer models (at least -12) they´re only available for front doors.

Hurray! stopped raining!

front bumper damage, small amount of overspray on insert beneath Foglamp but nothing too obvious elsewhere.
i'll probably live with the crack for now, get it repaired if bumper needs to come off in future.
Image

this was same both sides of boot, something a touch too wide pushed in?
bit of double sided tape & heat gun soon sorted it
Image

had a play with seats etc today, all appears fine.
also found all the Service History & other papers for work done by dealer, will give it the once over later

Nice. Minimal damge. Couple of days to get her ready for France. Remember your breath test kit.

i have seen some French sites mentioning abandonment but i think they've gone too far now to stop?

nothing of note in the paperwork, ex-demo sold as Used with 3k on clock for the sum of £18,200.
3 yrs later bought for £6750.
had a Brake Fluid change according to paperwork but looking at cost i reckon someone didn't know how to do it or wouldn't get hands dirty!

All pretty good then. I read somewhere that the lights dont have to be adjusted for France.
Mine had new discs and pads before I bought it, and the aircon was regassed under warranty.
Have a safe and comfortable journey next week.
