c5 suspension serious fault

Post by citroen7 »

Hi guys,
long time no post but had nothing go wrong! until now...
i have just bought an 02 2.2 sx which has "serious suspension fault" up on the dash. I had the car delivered home and managed to get it up on the ramp thinking major leak have had a good look but nothing ,topped the fluid up (probably too much now ) and still nothing so can someone give me a starting point on where to start? if it helps this one has sport mode ,will throw some pics up tomorrow would like to fix this one as it is quite tidy thanks.

I had the same message on my dash recently, the rear suspension raised to max, every little bump in the rod felt like it would knock my fillings out, I digress. The problem was a snapped link from the rear anti roll bar to the central center switch. Replaced for £4.80, followed by a good clean of the switch with WD40 and all good with the world now. Don't know if this is the same with yours.

Same message on my C5 a few weeks ago (see post on here). Turned out to be the suspension pump had burned out which caused some of the fluid to ignite. Be careful and check out the pump, before driving further.

thanks chaps pretty sure the pump is duff but i have not proved that yet ,i had a mad moment while trying to untangle the bent wiper blade and the wiper arm hit the windscreen and cracked it!so i have taken the wheels and one or two other bits and bobs for my other c5 and have not touched it since . I will have to do a bsi reset tomorrow and get it out of the garage as i need the ramp as a 2000 xantia exclusive came my way last week for cheap money, the c5 will probably end up being broken as it does not owe me more than weigh in shame i know but the xantia is more suited to the dogs and a lot less milage i am in no rush to shift the c5 but if anyone needs stuff asap let me know

Ok so I know this will work better with the wheels back on; but the pump should audibly cut in and out when a door is opened, or at least the suspension should move according to the height lever (assuming engine runs)?

engine runs but pump does not run at all been through all the fuses and that was as far as i got when the windscreen bust and i lost interest but as i could do with parking it on the extended yard i could really do with the suspension up!

Knowing Citroen / Peugeot dashboard messages, "serious suspension fault" could be anything from a faulty pump to a faulty "serious suspension fault sensor" :-) A diagnostic tool, such as a lexia would narrow it down.

I don't know the first thing about electric suspension pumps, but can you get to the pump wiring? How many wires are there? If more than 2 wires then are any 2 of them thicker than the rest? Have you got a multimeter you can use to test if any wires are a permanent ground/12V and to test for 12V on any of the wires when it should be running?
