Radiator drain tap - C8 2.2 Tdi, 2003

I cannot see a usable drain tap on the radiator on our car. There's the expected pipe at bottom near the centre but no means of opening it. Where I'd expect to see one, there's just a hole in the thing - with a little "pip" moulded in at the top. Has someone bodged this? I certainly don't want to buy a new radiator. (When fitting a new temperature sender on Friday I had to resort to draining the system by pulling off the bottom hose!)

Well, our car has what looks exactly like a drain tap - but it's as if someone has lost the plastic fitting within the tap and bunged a piece of capped off plastic pipe up there! Surely it's a bit over the top to have to disconnect the bottom hose to drain it?
