Brilliant. It never occurred to me that the ultrasonic sensors would make a good "pet protector" :-D

I can tell you for definite that the boot switch is flimsy. The one on Gracie snapped its' stem, so she always thought the boot was open. Disconnecting this overcame this problem, until I got a replacement one from citroenxm (thanks for that), after which she stopped chirping. However, she still occasionally shouts for help, and I think it could be a dirty connection on one (or both) of the ultrasonics. Until I have fathomed this one out I lock her from the key, not the fob.

Black leather, black cat, dark car park. I went down twice in the night to check all the doors were shut, never noticed the cat! As soon as I went down in the morning light to go to work, out dashed one very peeved cat...

If you press and hold the switch on the dash with the X though a siren, top row on the right of the steering colum, hold it untill the RED led stops flashing this then disarms the Ultra sonics... You can then when you get out use the PLIP to lock the car while they are disabled...

It probably left something behind for you to remember it by! They do that if they can't get out.

If you think its the ultrasonics, try disconnecting the yellow plug on the left door that goes to the ultrasonic sensor...its just under the top right hand corner of the door card, you can get at it without fully removing the card, (just remove the bolts and lift that corner away) about 10 minutes work.

Edit: here is a picture, the left most yellow plug:

This will permanently disable the ultrasonics but let you lock the car with the fob and still have the protection of the door sensors. If you get no false alarms like this you know its the ultrasonics...

ok this is madness....
the alarm switch is on the boot door it self... managed to take it off I press it with my finger the alarm arms with no complaints...
I taped it around so it presses the button in all the time ... the alarm arms with out a problem.
Now ... the difficult bit ... lol still taped around so the switch is pressed as if the door is closed ... (when I close the boot) the alarm beeps as if the boot door is open! WTF!!! lol I open the tail gate ... up to half way and it will arm without a problem!!!
I am frozen so I left it as it is for now!!!

Hello there,

On Gracie the alarm switch was on the hasp in the boot sill. When I closed the boot, the black "protector" slides down and pushes the button in, opening the circuit, and letting Gracie know the boot was closed. The switch on the boot lid is usually for the boot light.

I wonder if the switch on your boot sill has been replaced with a "push to make" switch, which is the wrong type. The simple way to test is to find the connector under the black boot sill protector, and disconnect it.

The boot lip around the bumper ... has no cabling or anything .... there is no wiring at all
The only wiring is on the boot lid, and this black switch looks like it is the alarm one :S
That black switch does things for the alarm ... ie when pressed the alarm will not make a beep sound and the hazards will flash once...
when it is not pressed the hazards will not flash and it will make a beep!
If I press that black switch in or out it makes no difference to the boot lights ... hence I believe it is purely the alarm sensing switch.

As you can see from the pic I had to remove the carpet as it was wet :(
but no wiring at all on the boot floor

Aah, right. I didn't remember (from your previous posts) it was an estate car (or to check your signature!)!

That switch will be the right switch based on what you have written. What I think is likely is that the latch is loose, or too far down, which would result in the boot locking, but the button NOT being pressed when the boot is closed (this happened on my BX, which meant that she showed the boot open even when it was closed).

The fix is a bit hit and miss. What I did was to secure the latch as far into the boot as it would go, and then close the boot. It didn't latch, so I loosened it and moved it slightly down, and tried again. Eventually it would latch properly, and the boot warning light would go out. I think that the same would work here for you.

The other possiblity is damaged wiring in the gaitor where it goes from the boot into the body of the car. I hope it isn't, as there is very little space to work on the wiring here.

When the gate was open and I was closing the latch in the closed position with the screwdriver seems to be OK.
But when it is closed by it self ... it does not like it...
so it must be the case the adjustment has to be made.
That door is way too heavy and slams big time

That suggests that the struts have failed. They work like the gas shock absorbers on lesser cars. I just had a look on fleabay and found these;

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/CITROEN-XANTI ... 416ae77442" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

I wonder if greasing the original stems would help, as this might help the seals. Probably not, but it might be worth the effort.

It could still be worth greasing those stems, as the right grease could help the seals (as well as to smooth out the movement). The experts on this forum would either know what is the best grease to use, or whether it is a stupid idea and tell me to shut up!

Sorry,

I didn't realise you had an estate, the location of the switch I was describing was for the hatchback, I didn't even stop to think that the estate would be different. It sounds like you've found your problem by manually operating the switch - it must be the mechanical adjustment of the boot catch or the switch that are out of alignment.
