Had the same problem with mine when i just bought it and was slack in the cable in the engine bay. I would put my foot down and nothing happened and top speed was approx 90mph and was rubbish up hills, a mate did the cable and it was like a rocket afterwards.

Look to the right hand side of the engine bay, at the bottom to the left of the fuse box if i remember rightly.

Yes they are drive by wire, but the throttle is connected via a Cable to the throttle spindle sensor on the Right side, above the gear box area... The out cable has a ridge section, there should be a wire clip holding it Outward away from the spindle, as far as it gently will go, this then takes up the slack in the cable.. If this is correctly set then there could be a number of other issues. The throttle spindle could be faulty and not sending info to the ECU. The best thing is to get a Lexia Diagnostic session done, this then can show you live data of what sensor etc is dooing what or not..

There could be a number of things, low fuel pressure, a pump issue, etc etc..

Cheers for that XM i had a guy round earlier to ead the stored codes on the ECU and most of the recent ones relate to fuel pressure etc the codes were P0245 p0190 p0191 p0235 p1429 p0100 p1112 I am starting to go through them now but any help with rectifying these issues would be greatly appreciated, also is there anybody on here from wiltshire, north somerset who has a lexia as these seem to be the holy grail for fault finding on these beasts
Thanks Ian

Ha.. i suggested fuel pressure without even thinking about it... :P

i only thought this because Im experiencing a similar slow response pickup with my own car just at the moment...
