C4 gearbox ratios

Post by flying clutchman »

I'm trying to source a gearbox for a 2006 1.6 Petrol C4. This uses a variant of the MA box. These appear to be very thin on the ground, but are very similar to the C3 1.4 petrol boxes. Can anybody tell me if these are indeed identical, or whether the ratios differ even if the boxes look the same.

I thought that would be no bother to google but I cant find the C3 ratios.

For the C4: http://www.carinf.com/en/7a90416055.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; says "0.74:1 is the top gear ratio. Its final drive ratio is 4.93:1"

If anyone here has a 1.4 petrol C3 and could tell us what speed it does at a certain RPM in top gear (and what size tyres it's on) then a bit of maths will give a good estimate of the ratio.

Does that mean top should give x3.68? Not much good at maths I'm afraid

They've got different part numbers - one says 13 x 60 and the other 16 x 31. No idea what these refer to, but the ratios look different. What's up with the one you've got? Could you swap the internals over, or is it them that have had it?

It's making horrendus grinding noises and there's a substantial oil leak, the fella thought it was his clutch! I've found a firm nearby who claim to have a recon one for £350+ but I don't want to be fobbed off with a wrong one.
