Hi all,
My C5 would have this burn smell coming out from the air-con (suspecting) when I pushed the car to 4K RPM and above.
What could have the problem? Is this the car's indication to change engine oil, gearbox oil or is there a bigger problem behind?
Kindly advise me and Thank you very much.

Re: Burn smell from 4K RPM?
Quite often caused by driver error i.e. resting one's foot on the brake pedal at the same time as accelerator. Causes premature gearbox failure.
Man is, by nature, a lazy beast, he does not need twice encouraging to do nothing.
Re: Burn smell from 4K RPM?
maybe this should be linked to your gear oil thread as it might be related,
i dont know much about auto box's but it sounds like the clutch's in the box are slipping/burning,
this will not do the gear oil any good at all

Oh dear, this sounds worrying to me. Feel like going out there to grab a gearbox vitalizer and see if it works for me. But then, Jim told me to stick with AL4 and nothing...really puzzling..citronut wrote:maybe this should be linked to your gear oil thread as it might be related,

Re: Burn smell from 4K RPM?
Jim's advice is good. I would unhesitatingly follow it, had I an autobox.
Re: Burn smell from 4K RPM?
The smell would occur when driving hard. I read from other threads that it might be due to a leaky exhaust or oil leak on the catalytic converter. What do you guys think about this?
So far, I have changed the gearbox oil 3 times since almost 10 months of ownership. The situation did not improve. I’m concerned whether I would be toxicated by CO2 eventually, LOL.
