1.6 8v Xsara Picasso - Timing and TDC

Post by weluvaj »

Hi, I'm hoping someone out there may have some advice.

Attempted to change the timing belt on my 2001 Xsara (never again), in doing so (and after several hours trying to locate the locking hole for the flywheel) have managed to get it all back together, unfortunately failed to realise that I had left the locking pin in the top crank and turned the car over by the key, since then I have tried turning it by hand and after half a turn everything locks and it will not go around by hand.

Has anyone got a solution or is this down to valve damage?

Thanks

hi.. you have probably slipped the timing belt when trying to turn using key. unlucky.. a few of us may have done similar.. but in future you really need to turn by hand before by key :(

i would get tdc on the flywheel, if you can, then remove belt and get the other locking pins in.. and put belt back on..
otherwise remove belt now, first, and get everything else locked up where it should be..
and then try to run her.. fingers crossed you haven't done any damage

if the cam belt slipped when you cranked it over, i would not use that timing belt but get a new one,

also sorry to say but it is 99% you have bent valves now, so the head will almost certainly have to come off,

were are you located

Isnthe crank pin in the crank pulley ?
I have had some of these where the outer section of pulley has slipped, hence giving you the wrong setting for the crank.
Obviously if your pulley is solid, then this cannot be the case.
Always best to mark with tipex just to have a reference if the pins are wrong.
Clutching at straws slightly, does sound like it may be naffed up.
Worth checking to see if you have sheared the camshaft woodruff keys, this is another fairly common issue, you will never line it up if this is the case.
