Penetrating Oil Advice

Post by citroenxm »

Hi all..

Advice on the best Penertraiting oil OTHER THEN WD40...

The issue we have is a partially siezed Steering UJ joint on an XM, but rather remove it, which is a bit more fiddley then a Xantia, try and inialate it in penetrating oil in a hope to free it, then coat it in grease..

So any recomends on an oil???

Cheers

Not an oil, (in fact it's non oil based and non greasy) but when it comes to penetrating and freeing rusted bolts and mechanisms etc you won't find much better than this:

http://www.lpslabs.com/product_pg/lubri ... /LPS1.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Only trouble is I'm not sure if its readily available in the UK, I still have a can I brought with me from New Zealand :lol: I guess I will find out soon as my can is nearly empty...

Edit: There is also an oily version of it that leaves an oily protective residue, although I haven't used that one much:

This Deblock Oil is the best we've ever had Paul:

Innotec do some great stuff - their double sided tape is second to none and perfect for if you're, eg, sticking side mouldings on cars etc. THE best...

Acetone and ATF. Mix fresh, use promptly, applied with a brush. Once it's moving, start going up in oil weights.

Plus gas available in a spray canister though?? I can squirt a can of Plug gas from the wheel arch.. Ill need to reach into the UJ, which on the XM is not as easy as the Xantia, so If its available in a pressurised can that would be good...

There is the answer :lol: , plus gas the hell out of it then drown it in engine oil or 3 in 1, grease wont be much cop, it will just sit on the outside of the joint and attract muck.

Würth Rost-Off, but you'll have to speak to some one in the trade as Würth don't do retail.

WD40 isn't a penetrating oil and neither does it purport to be.

Equal parts of DERV, paraffin and LHM?
