citroen zx engine into a citroen dispatch van

Post by dudarus1 »

i currently have a 2005 citroen dispatch van with the 1.9 non turbo engine and was wondering if the engine out of my 1.9 turbo diesel zx will fit in the van. if so will i need to swap the gearbox as well. hopefully it will be a straight swap.

thanks in advance

2005 engine will be an HDI unit.
Dont think they fitted that beast in th ZX they were all xud I believe.
I have an early dispatch 98 which I put a zx engine in without any problems.
Is the engine completely dead as in cambelt broke, con rod out the side or similar.
Hdi engines should be plentyful at the breakers at reasonable cost.

The engine in my van is an xud 1.9 non turbo. the engine isnt broken its just painfully slow so as the zx has many rust holes i thought i would drop the engine in as its a turbo diesel model. when you did yours did you use the zx gearbox. just i think if i use the one on the van the ratios will be all wrong.

thanks

Now thats strange!!.your van must be LEZ compliant being a 2005 model.
If it just the xud engine it should bolt straight in. Mine was from a 19 zx turbo, but I did'nt use the turbo so a little bit of swapping and changing but bolts straight onto the van box.
Whats the milage of the van mine is happy to cruise along at 75 and take its self upto 85 and my engine has about 140000, the van is on about 220000.
The accelleration wont stick you to the back of your seat :-D but I dont worry about it.
Be interesting to know about the engine fitted to such a late van. Sounds like LEZ compliant engine but still a chip oil burner.

Could well be a DW8, they were fitted to commercials around that time just not the standard passenger cars.
Andy.

91 205D-Turbo, gone but still missed
02 106D, TUD5B, gone but not really missed apart from the MPG

dont think my van will be lez complient the tax is 120 for six months. i think that worse case scenario i will have to use the gearbox on the van and then the ratios will be wrong but it will work i suppose

No the gearbox will be fine !!, as your not changing that just the engine.
Still intrigued about the lez compliance bit as I need a new van to get inside the M25 lol.
Could you check to see if it is or is'nt please dudarus1 it will satisfy my curiosity :?
I'll even put a direct link for you lol.

Thats it then I'll be looking for a van with a non hdi engine.
Whats actually wrong with your van that you need to put the turbo in.
Is it acceleration or top speed your looking for. Subject to which pump you have they can be tweaked to give you a bit more grunt.
I'll have a browse later to see if I can find the topic about tweaking the pump.

its using quite alot of oil and its accelaration is rubbish. plus if i drop the zx engine in then i can run on wvo as it has a bosh pump
