heater matrix?

Post by mog »

Citroen
Xsara
1.4LX
2001
From what I understand, wet foot well on passengers side is indicative of a failed heater matrix, however, I don't want to then find out something else is wrong, as the blowers are also not working, even on full, though, when I do try to switch the heater/blowers on, a steady trickle of smoke/steam rises from (as fas as I can tell at least) the 2 main vents.
Is this still part and pass of a failed heater matrix, or could it be something else, like... the heater blower motor?

Many thanks for your thoughts/help on this.

Mog.

I understand that in 2002/02 quite a big run of Xsaras were put together with inferior heater matrixs. My daughter bought a new HDI Xsara in 2002 and within eighteen months hers was leaking into the passenger foot well. It was replaced under warranty,

I would assume its about as difficult to change as on a 306 , could be wrong though. Its not *that* bad but a long job unfortunately.

certainly sounds like the matrix leaking, is there a smell of antifreeze,

i think it is a dash/fascia out job to fit a new one

well, the wet stuff is kinda slippery/oily, as for smelling of something, I'm not really too sure about...
but would heater matrix also cause the blowers to stop working too ?

the blower fault could be similar to what the XANT suffers with, resistor pack/ignition switch, bad connections causing burnt connectors at the motor
