I'm guessing the ducting between the motor and the mechanism that sends the air to the various vents must have come out of place or be leaking. Wouldn't of though it could be anything else. Might be worth checking whilst waiting for the response of a more knowledgeable person.

You haven't fitted a pug 406 blower have you? Their impeller blades go backwards.

Have not done it on one of these, but you would need to fit the Xantia fan blades and swap the wiring to the brushes, so the positive and negative brush connections are the other way around.

I'd go with it being a 406 one too. They look more or less identical.

I've tried to get a fan off. I gave up in the end. It seems to be welded on or else it's on there with some excellent glue...

yep i's go with the 406 fan fitted, as this is exactly what happened when i knowingly fitted one to my XANT,
on checking it side by side looking staight at the fan noes cone there is a directional indicator arrow,

in my case my XANT motor was fine so i just used the resistor pack from the 406 fan with my original motor,

they dont only spin the opposite way but the fins face the wrong direction as well

if its an air con car it is attached fan base, its the lump of finned alloy,

unplug the plug that goes through the side of the motor housing, and on some there is two screws going into the back of the housing, remove them and pull/prize the motor and impelar out of its plastic housing,
then the resistor pack can be un/screwed

Probably a dumb question but, what if I lift the fan unit out of the citroen blower and drop it into the pug406 unit ? would it work?

if you mean lift the motor out of the pug motor housing and drop the citroen one in, that should work as the motor housing on both are basically the same,

it doesn't matter either way as long as firstly you only use a citroen motor, and secondly its only two screws hold the resistor pack into the moroe housing,

obviously also only if your original motor runs when directly across a battery whilst out of its housing and disconnected from the resistor pack

I have swapped the resistor pack from the pug406 blower unit. The motor again runs fine, but there is no air blowing through any of the vents. What have I done wrong? Iam using the original motor from the citroen unit. cheers Terry .
