i fitted a new cam belt kit and water pump to JohnD's C5 2.0 16V HDI 138 on thursday, i had to almost shoe horn the belt onto the sprocket and tensioners ,
just like the DW8 belt i really thought it was not going to give just that tiny bit more
nice to meet you John

Re: C5 2.0 16V HDI 138 thinks its a DW8
I had this problem once with an XU10 unit (if I remember it was a 306 GTi) , they changed the belt / tensioner arrangement so the replacment tensioner needed the 'newer' belt (it was new!) , I forget the specifics but it was something like 139 vs 138 teeth on the belts
Would of been nice if I'd of been informed in advance.

aaaah that would explain it, although both belts had 117 teeth i think it was, and i think i did hold the new and old tentioner against each other, i dont remember doing the same with the new idler though, spider wrote:I had this problem once with an XU10 unit (if I remember it was a 306 GTi) , they changed the belt / tensioner arrangement so the replacment tensioner needed the 'newer' belt (it was new!) , I forget the specifics but it was something like 139 vs 138 teeth on the belts

the other think i found is my flywheel locking tool ( long length of 3/16th copper brake pipe ) would not enter the flywheel locking piont/hole hardly at all, just look at it and it would drop out,

It seems the flywheel hole is 8mm and maybe not very deep so 3/16 rod would be very loose.

This is a big problem when doing a cambelt on a V6. It seems to be one tooth too short however you try. Fun

i didnt find 3/16th to small/loose i just felt it wouldn't go in/locate by very much at all, as though it was just the tip entering a small dent rather than a peg hole in the flywheelJohnD wrote:It seems the flywheel hole is 8mm and maybe not very deep so 3/16 rod would be very loose.
