Saxo / 106 CV boot

Post by imperial21 »

Hi
I have to change the CV boot a pug 106 ( sorry for putting saxo just citroen side is more popular and its the same really !!)
I just want to confirm what i remember been a long time since i last had to do one usually i use a slide on boot but they did nt have my size !
so i am doing it the hard way, I need to remove the CV joint, strip the car till i have the drive shaft then hang the joint down and knock off with a mallet / hammer ?

Thanks

i might be wrong here but i dont think these shafts separate at the CV joint as the knock off ones do,

if it has what i call the tin can inner gaiter you will need to fit the outer from the inner end,

to remove the inner gaiter you need the shaft held in a vice by the tin can with the inner splines pointing upwards,
then gently peel the edge of the tin can outwards from the main joint body, be very careful not to destroy the tin can as you peel it away just enough to alow you to slide the can down the shaft with its gaiter attached,

the you need to remove the circlip and triack from the inner end of the shaft,
then slide the inner and outer gaiter off the shaft fit the new outer and reassemble the rest, you will needto roll the edge of the can back over the edge of the inner joint body to secure it in place

Just go onto ebay and type in universal cv boot stretch, plenty on there, cut the top off a traffic cone and use that to stretch the boot over with the lube supplied in the pack, easy!

the reason i dont like streachy CV boots is if the old one is split wide open the joint will be full of dirt and grit,
so fitting a streachy boot will just trap that inside the joint

All done this morning ! I found another place selling stretch boots and cones, I think this 106 is the easiest i have ever done as it did nt have anti roll bar ! I was lucky the boot had only just split and was full of grease still so it cleaned up well. Thanks for your help
