Precisely.

The car is question is one to buy and carry on storing in it's present condition until the day Xantias are so rare they're considered valuable classics. Their day will come.

It seems that when they're true bona-fide classics specification does not matter a jot. The fact it's 1.9D LX will be irrelevant. It's the fact it's an immaculate, unused Citroen Xantia that will be important. Today, the most desirable classics are judged solely on condition and not on specification.

I can already see the joy on Franklin Rugg's grandson's face when he 'discovers' it again after many more years of loving storage...

Well Jim, it's still an LX gutless 'wonder' so as far as I'm concerned
it may as well get wheeled back into that barn and become a curiosity
on the motoring equivalent of Antiques Roadshow in another 30 years
when diesel doesn't exist any more to power it anyway.

Ahh, but there'll always be cooking oil

You'll have more chance of running up a diesel engined car as a curiosity than any petrol powered one in 40 or so years time as thy're sure to have been long banned by then and it's unlikely a suitable petrol will be even available to run them.

   Well funnily enough I was offered this car at the weekend although that was on the basis that it had done just 555 miles - OK, 5555 is still lovely mileage (and would be lovely to accompany dad's 6,000 Mile BX GT) however still not though magic 3 figures... However dad spoke to the guy and made an offer and stood by this offer even when told the mileage was actually 5555. Left it that the guy was going to send some photographs over due to the distance between us. Nice to see that evening that he bunged it on eBay and we didn't hear another word - thanks, mate. #-o Suffice to say we're not going to entertain the thought of bothering to bid - no point. Mandrake wrote:I like the way it says stored for 17 years and the hydraulic suspension works as it should.

Umm, yeah, I'll believe that the spheres haven't completely lost their pressure sitting for 17 years. [-X

Bet any money the suspension is as stiff as a board.
You'd be surprised to read then that dad's 1983 GSA X1 was put into barn storage in 1985 and when we brought it out in 2011, serviced (oil/filter/belts) it and it lifted up instantly with no issues at all, all spheres are perfect and it rides beautifully... On it's original spheres and LHM. The same goes for the 6,000 Miles BX GT although I don't think that was quite as long...

It's the same model as my current Xantia. Not that far from me either. I like it and would be quite tempted if I had the money as I think it's going to make much more than I'm prepared to pay.

As for the fact it's a n/a diesel that's perfectly fine in my world 8-)

If I did buy it I would use it. That's what cars are designed and built for not sitting in museums or garages

Well two people seem to think it's worth more than a grand!
Wonder what background story there is to them both and what they have planned for it!?

I would love this car if it wasn't such a crap spec.

Yes! Less is more which may not be a bad thing considering it's probably going to need a heck of a lot of money to re-commission it. I do particularly like the way that the guy casually states that it can be MOT'd and serviced. The way in which he writes that implies that he forgot to add ... at buyer's expense!

After Franklin's experience of the seller, methinks this will be relisted again in due course.

Dare I say, if the gentleman seller follows the Scottish stereotype, he won't be willing to dig shallow let alone deep to pay for the MOT and service. (N.B. I do not necessarily agree with this stereotype).

I note he also states PROJECT in the subtitle - obviously not for him!

Either he's blind to the effect of storing a car for 17 years or his mate will MOT it!!!

I still remember how my GS estate was only 980Kg.... my how cars have got fatter and heavier over the years.
This is the same for the Golf... The Mk.1 GTi was only (in 1.8 form) 8v and injection.. and boy (-expletive removed-) loads of fun fun fun!

The newest one needs a massive 2.o 16v and a turbo and is no more fun then the Mk.1 because its put on soooo much weight over the years.
Somebody in a chatroom was talking about a Jaguar XJ12 he once owned and he mentioned that it weighed two tonnes. I said that was only slightly heavier than the current Vauxhall Astra. He thought I was being silly but after a Googling session he discovered that depending on spec and equipment some Astras weigh more than an XJ12.

That means, a Xantia V6 weighs 120 kg MORE, than a Granada MKII 2.8 Ghia.

The automatic gearbox is incredibly heavy on a V6. It has uprated and unique suspension at the front to support the drive-train. On the other hand the engine is incredibly light for what it is. The total weight of engine and gearbox is around 260Kg with the gearbox accounting for nearly 100Kg of this...

I received a phone call about the Xantia the subject of this thread, asking for a valuation. I was told it had a three figure mileage and at first I thought this was a different car. At the time the caller did not know what engine or spec. the car was.

Hmm...sounds familiar Jim with it being three figures... Quote from a few posts up...

Ditto. It had one in a 405 and agree. Fuel economy in the D was something else though. If you're not in a hurry...
