were'z that D section

Post by citronut »

calling all D experts,

i have been asked to help get a1971 D Pallas injection and running that has been dry stored and parked up since 1988,

i would like a blow by blow list of what to check in sequence of relevance, and were to locate components,

and which pin to test and for what

First place to start Malcolm is the fuel pump running when the ignition is turned on? It should run for a couple of seconds then turn off until the engine is cranked. You should hear it running as its electric and located in the O/S sill, remove the stainless sill covers for access.

After that I'd run through the usual checks of spark etc.

Let me know how far you get and I'll help along the way, I'll post a link to the DS workshop manuals later.

and i'd better try to remember to leave my fingers at home

planning on going to look at it a week this sunday,

so apart from a test lamp, multimeter, injector noid lamps and feeler gauges, although its probably electronic ignition but i could check the plug gaps whilst im there,

what spanners/screwdrivers am i likely to need

and were do i shove the DIS LEXIA :?

Here's all the files/workshop manuals you need Malcolm, I did have the proper Bosch EFi tester but sold it as whilst its useful you can do all the same tests from pinning out the ECU which is located below the glovebox, remove the metal panel for access.

Click on the tab "Parent Directory" a couple of times and you'll find all manner of useful files for DS's Tractions and 2CV's.

Re plug spanners you'll need a very deep reach socket to get right down to the plugs and quite a specific length one as well as they are rather buried and the intake manifold obstructs you just for good measure, the rear plug is accessed via a hole on the bulkhead

Once you have run the pump a few times, have a good look/sniff for fuel leaks around the injectors as they have a tendency to leak if they of the old/original type.

Lexia goes in the boot. Fuel pump where DG says. Will take some cranking (battery needs to be good); bring a can of ether and a squirty bottle of fuel.

ok thank

can you measure the length of your 's Dickie G whoooops i mean plug socket Richard,

i did make up/cut down a box spanner to get the plugs out of my friends H, but i think it wont be long enough for an EFI D,
unless its an easy job to whip the inlet manifold off

The intake plenum runners are joined to the head's intake stubs by little rubber hoses on the LHS; these are held on by hose clamps.

I suppose! It's been a while since I saw a G at the current (temporary) workplace - however today there were five Dees (only one IE though) and an SM.

Here's a piece of D for the keen-eyed:

What on earth does a CX one look like? :? The Bosch DS EFi one is shown in the manuals I gave in the link's above.

Re the plug spanner, I can't recall which one I used as I have quite a few including numerous socket extensions U/J's, my advice is to take everything you have in that department.
