C5 Audio questions

Post by xenton »

I am wanting to get my Kenwood head unit and sub into my C5. I have a few questions I think I know the answers too, but would appreciate if people could verify or correct me:

1)I will need an aerial adaptor
2) I will need an adaptor to convert the audio connectors to ISO.
3) Hole is not standard din sized - will need a fascia adaptor.

I would have no idea on these:

4)How to run a cable from the battery into the interior of the car and then into the boot (previous car was via a grommet under wheel arch liner into car).
5) Suitable ground point in/near boot (one of the seat bolts maybe?)

Many Thanks

I fitted a Kenwood unit to mine, If remember I needed all three of the above. I could not find a way to get the wire from the battery to the boot so I ran wire down the bulkhead and went in via a rubber grommet in the passenger side front foot well and ran under the carpet to the boot (sub).

I also fitted an adapter so the radio controls at the side of the steering wheel still work.

Thank you, that's a big help. Cable from engine bay straight into car? I had to remove a wheel arch liner in previous vehicle to get the cable from the engine bay down to the grommet in the pad singer footwell.

I must admit I work at at a garage and had the car on a ramp so was dead easy to route the wire to the passenger side foot well.

The stereo is standard DIN with standard plugs but...

You can use the speaker plug as-is but the power side needs to have its own supply or the car's electronics will cry. The cigarette lighter sockets are ideal for this, one being permanent and the other ignition controlled.

The surrounds for the switches are clipped onto the OEM stereo, so you need to buy a fascia- cheap on eBay. It gives one of the neatest aftermarket installations I've seen.

I never had to do anything to my power supply justed bought the appropriate leads and plug and play including steering column controls.

I also fitted new Kenwood speakers which were also plug and play as they had the correct plug on them so the car wiring plugged straight in.

Happy installing.

As said I ran a wire from my battery down the bulkhead and into a grommet under the front passenger side floor.

Have fun.

There's a more accessible grommit on the drivers side underneath the wiper mechanism area. I ran the power supply from the battery back to the bulkhead then across to the grommit where it comes out underneath the pedals, then run it under the sill trims to the rear. RCA's down the passenger side and earthed the amp against the rear of the seat after rubbing down the black paint to bare metal. Head unit is plug and play, but needed a Connects2 interface for the wheel controls. Fascia adaptor is a couple of quid on eBay. Offer up the fascia adaptor and then put the cage for the aftermarket head unit in, this holds the fascia in place.

I got my kenwood unit in with steering wheel adaptor, all works fine, not I perfectly, need to get the cage to sit further back, is slightly proud of where it needs to be ATM, meaning the fascia adaptor sits slightly proud, but got the headinit in for now, them realise I can't find the realise keys to get it back out (planned to seat it properly when I removed to fit sub). Sure they can be had for a few quid from Halfrauds.
